Frequently Asked Questions

What is Termspec?

Termspec is a subterranean termite management system which is a physical and chemical system in one. It is installed to the foundations of new buildings or extensions to provide a continuous management system, preventing concealed entry of subterranean termites into the building, thereby protecting the asset.

TheTermspec productrange
is manufactured in Australia from polymer based products and incorporates the liquid termiticide chemical Biflex. Biflex is a leading termiticide which has protected over one million homes in Australia since its launch in 1995.

The Termspec range is suitable for a wide range of residential and commercial building designs. The polymer sheeting can be installed on retaining walls, as

ant capping for suspended floors as well as many other areas
on raised, split-level or slab on ground construction types.

How does Termspec work?

Termspec utilises the proven power
of Biflex which is incorporated into
its plastic matrix. Biflex is a synthetic pyrethroid modelled on Mother Nature’s effective insecticide pyrethrum, which is extracted from the pyrethrum daisy.

How is Termspec Installed?

Termspec is installed during construction and sealed permanently to the foundations of the building, eg. under/in slab, in the perimeter wall cavity.

Installing Termspec is safe and easy. The material will not crack, corrode or wick when exposed to moisture.

All products must be installed by an Termspec Accredited Operator, in order to validate the Termspec $1,000,000 Peace of Mind Warranty.

Termspec can provide you with details of Termspec Accredited Operators in your area and can match an operator to meet your subterranean termite installation requirements.

How long will Termspec Last?

The Termspec range of products are made from high quality, UV stabilised polymers, designed to handle the rigours of construction and to provide
an effective subterranean termite management system for at least 50 years.

Termspec sheeting and collars are CodeMark Certified and are therefore approved for building works Australia-wide.

What are the Builders Responsibilities?

At handover the builder should ensure that the new owner is fully briefed on their ongoing obligations with respect to the maintenance of the subterranean termite management system.

This is to ensure that the integrity of the Termspec Barrier is not compromised and aligns with Australian Standard AS3660 – 2000 Termite Management Parts 1 & 2. Adherence to these requirements will ensure that your client’s warranty obligations are met.

Why is Termspec a Cost Effective Choice?

Because it is a single-installation product, Termspec fits seamlessly within the construction process. This prevents excess construction costs due to slow installation processes.

In many cases, Termspec sheeting serves a dual purpose as a subterranean termite barrier and a moisture barrier which reduces cost.

The Termspec $1,000,000 Peace of Mind Warranty protects your client’s from the cost associated with subterranean termite damage, which more often than not isn’t covered by general household insurance. A Termspec barrier offers the homeowner reassurance because it is backed by the Termspec $1,000,000 Peace of Mind Warranty.

What is the Termspec $1,000,000 Peace of Mind Warranty?

Termspec-POMTermspec wanted to make a commitment to the Australian property owner to be absolutely transparent. Knowing more often than not that general insurance does not cover subterranean termite damage, we introduced the Termspec warranty for Australian property owners.

The Termspec $1,000,000 Peace of Mind Warranty is a no- nonsense, simple warranty covering all structural and decorative timbers that are protected by a Termspec subterranean termite barrier when correctly installed by a Termspec Accredited Operator.

The warranty is conditional on undertaking an annual inspection of the property as detailed in the Australian Standard 4349.3, to be conducted by a timber pest inspector at the home owner’s expense. Other conditions apply. Terms and conditions of the Termspec Warranty can be found here.
